Now calling for entries, the 2014 Print Awards are open to all British and international artists’ interpretation of contemporary print processes including 2D, 3D, video, installation and site-specific work. They are the centrepiece of the International Print Biennale which celebrates the role of print in contemporary practice and is the only event of its kind in the UK.
The International Print Biennale was created by Northern Print in 2009 as the first major project in the UK for 20 years concentrated on the diversity of contemporary printmaking. The aim is to reward and promote excellence through showcasing the very best in new British and international printmaking through an extensive programme across the North East of England of exhibitions, events, activities and an international symposium. The 2011 International Print Biennale welcomed an audience of over 153,000 from all over the world to print exhibitions and events across the region with 15,000 taking part in public events and learning activities.
The 2014 selection panel are: Stephen Coppel, Modern Prints and Drawings, British Museum; David Nash RA, Artist; and Susan Tallman, Editor-in-Chief, Art in Print, Chicago, USA. They will select an exhibition to be shown as part of the International Print Biennale at the Hatton Gallery and Northern Print from 27 June to 8 August 2014.
2014 Print Awards comprise a number of residency, bursary and purchase prizes including awards from Northern Print, Clifford Chance, National Glass Centre, V&A and The Bryan Robertson Trust.
